    Commercial Printing Capabilities

At CPC Printing and Promotions, our heatset web offset printing specialties include catalogs, magazines, manuals, inserts, tourism guides, calendars, direct mailers, and other medium-to-high-volume, high-quality commercial printing products.

Web Offset refers to the use of rolls, or “webs,” of paper supplied to the printing press. Webfed presses are divided into two general classes: “heatset” and “coldset.” Heatset presses utilize drying lamps or heaters to cure or “set” the inks instantly. On a coldset press, the ink dries through absorption into the paper.

Heatset Presses can print on both coated (slick) and uncoated papers, while coldset presses are mainly restricted to uncoated paper stock, such as newsprint. The speed of webfed presses far exceeds that of sheetfed presses and can provide distinct cost advantages. The heatset presses at CPC are custom designed and finely calibrated to produce the highest-quality printed products available.

At CPC, our sheetfed printing specialties include sell-sheets, brochures, newsletters, postcards, coupons, covers for catalogs and magazines, and other high-quality commercial printing products.

Sheetfed refers to the process of individual sheets of paper or paperboard being fed into a press via a suction bar that lifts and drops each sheet into place. Sheetfed presses are built in various sizes and are commonly used for producing shorter production runs. Mechanical registration ensures that the imagery appears in the same position on every sheet.

Finishing is the general term that encompasses cutting, trimming, folding, binding, and other post-production processes. It also refers to specialized decorative processes such as embossing, debossing, foil stamping, and die cutting.

Saddle Stitching and Perfect Binding are the two most commonly-used methods for binding products such as catalogs and magazines.

With Saddle Stitching, wire staples (or stitches) are driven through the spine to fasten a stack of folded sheets together. This is commonly seen in magazines, newsletters and other such publications. Newsweek, Time, Business Week, and other similar magazines provide an example of saddle stitching.

Perfect Binding, also called adhesive binding, is a method of affixing pages to a cover or spine by means of glue. An adhesive material is applied to the spine edge of the book block and a cover stock is wrapped around it. Common examples of perfect-bound publications include paperback books, telephone books, and higher-page-count catalogs and magazines.
