Offset Printing

Offset printing is a method of printing where metal plates transfer ink onto a rubber piece which is known as a blanket. The blanket then rolls the ink onto the paper.

One benefit to offset printing is that the colors are more precise since Pantone ink is used. Pantone ink also allows for printing metallic colors.

Another benefit to this method of printing is that larger sheets that are between 29″ and 40″ can be used, which can be beneficial for printing projects that require larger than standard paper such as posters or advertisements.

Digital Printing Versus Offset Printing

Offset printing is known to be of superior quality, but digital printing has come a long way in recent years. When comparing digital printing versus offset printing remember that the average person probably won’t be able to tell the difference between the printing methods unless they compared and studied the two copies side by side.

The most significant benefit to offset printing is that it can be cost effective when used appropriately. When printing a high volume of copies, offset printing saves you more money in the long run. Keep in mind that we are talking about copies and not single pages. There are cases where offset printing is not the most cost-effective method to use. One of those scenarios is when you are printing fewer copies or if you need to print a variety of different copies. Each printing job must be made into a plate, and that takes time and labor.

When you are printing fewer copies, it usually makes more sense to go with digital printing. Digital printing uses drums to put ink on paper and prints smaller pages that are between 19″ to 29″ in size. If you need a printing job done on short notice, you will probably need to go with digital printing because it allows for faster turnaround times.

Both printing methods are terrific and deliver excellent results. The deciding factor when weighing digital printing versus offset printing ultimately comes down to which one is more cost effective for your specific printing needs.
